Kavin Ravi

I'm studying Data Science and Business at Chapman, with interests in rigorous optimization in machine learning and quantitative finance. My work includes experiments with training algorithms and inference latency, as well as financial analysis and portfolio tools.

I'm especially interested in comparing methods carefully, including the time and compute they need to deliver an improvement.

Interests

I'm interested in how we decide whether a more complicated method is worth using. An optimizer can converge in fewer steps and still take longer to train. That's the kind of tradeoff I want to understand through experiments.

In quantitative finance, my interests include portfolio construction and using financial text in investment models. Outside of those projects, I enjoy rock climbing, tennis, and origami.
